Reply from Kansas Sierra Club Regarding Local Concerns About The Recent Goodland Energy Center Announcement...
"You should strongly object to the burning of municipal trash in this facility because there is likely no source control to remove things like chlorinated plastics that will generate highly toxic dioxins and mercury bearing items like old batteries and switches. Emissions would be comparable to coal to burn tire chips, biowastes and cardboard. It is untrue that this plan would be carbon neutral. Tires are made from fossil fuels not tree rubber. To the extent only cardboard and biowastes are burned it would reduce greenhouse gases." [snip] "However, you can be assured that these guys are a lot more interested in making more revenue by burning the city's garbage than they are in being carbon neutral."
